Shepparton Rowing Club’s Sophie Reinehr claimed gold at just about every rowing regatta she entered this month.
The 15-year-old Echuca teenager competed at the 151st Murray Rowing Association Regatta on Lake Moodemere at Rutherglen in January and collected eight gold medals from nine events.
Within three months of taking up the sport, Reinehr was already competing in rowing events and 18 months on has seen an abundance of success.
Nearly 570 competitors from across the state competed in the event.
Reinehr’s success came in the under 17 800m single scull, 500m single scull, 800m double scull, 500m double scull, open D grade double scull, coxed quad scull and coxed four scull.
The regatta was held throughout two days with the 800m events raced on Saturday, January 14, and the 500m sprints held on Sunday, January 15.
During the summer months she was spending nearly every day on the water, training in Shepparton two-three times a week under David Schier and undertaking extra sessions on the Murray river at daybreak.
She began rowing with Ballarat Grammar as well as Shepparton at the start of the school year having moved from St Joseph’s College.
