ECHUCA members of the Inland Outrigger Canoe Club have qualified to compete at the 2018 World Sprint Titles in Tahiti following the three-day national title sprint regatta on the Sunshine Coast.

National sprints V1 500m single canoe event had Janine Carroll finish third in her senior masters heat.

While she was successful in her heat, the time was not good enough across the three competing races to qualify for the final.

Yvonne Stansfield, though, claimed second in her golden master women’s heat to advance through to the finals.

Yvonne was second in a very close final, earning a silver medal, as well as securing her place for 2018 World Sprints in Tahiti.

This is the third time Yvonne has qualified for the International Va’a Federation (IVF) world sprints, an event held in various countries every two years.

Her achievement is exciting for the local club members who are proud of her success.

Inland OCC members combined with a Cairns crew to compete in the senior master V12 500m sprint.

The team combined well in their first race together, claiming the gold medal and confirming a place for the 2018 World Sprints.

This had the combined team seeded number one in Australia.

Echuca’s Inland OCC senior master women’s crew consisting of Yvonne Stansfield, Kristine Parkinson, Janine Carroll, Robyn Mandaradoni, Robyn Lynch and Pam Prescott competed in the OC6 1000m and 500m sprints qualifying for both finals, finishing fourth in both.

This qualified the team to race both events at world sprints.

All six paddlers competed in the OC1 500m sprints racing.

Kristine and Janine made the final but Yvonne and Pam finished with gold medals and Robyn Lynch with bronze.

This was not a qualifying event for worlds.

In the medal tally Inland OCC placed ninth overall with only six paddlers attending.

The event was a fantastic result for the local inland outrigger canoe club.
